You might have a few questions about Pick 4 if you're new to the game. Whether you want to know about the different play types, how to claim prizes, or something else, look through the list of FAQs below and tap on a query to see the answer.
What is Pick 4?
Pick 4 is a lottery where you can win prizes by matching four numbers between 0 and 9. It is played in states across the country but each variation has its own rules. In Tennessee, the game is known as Cash 4.
When do draws take place?
Draws take place at 9:28 AM CT (10:28 AM ET), 12:28 PM CT (1:28 PM ET) and 6:28 PM CT (7:28 PM ET) from Monday to Saturday, and at 6:28 PM CT (7:28 PM ET) on Sunday.
What time do ticket sales close?
Ticket sales close 20 minutes before each draw, so that is 9:08 AM CT (10:08 AM ET) for Morning draws, 12:08 PM CT (1:08 PM ET) for Midday draws and 6:08 PM CT (7:08 PM ET) for Evening draws.
How do I win a prize?
To win a prize, you need to match all four numbers and meet the requirements of your play type.
What play types are available?
You can choose to play an Exact Order, Any Order, Exact or Any Order, or a Combo. Go to the
Ways to Play page to find out more about each type of wager
How much does a ticket cost?
For Exact Order plays, and Any Order plays, you can decide whether to spend $0.50 or $1 per play. Other play types are a fixed $1 - if you're playing a combo, you have to pay for each separate combination, so the total cost is either $4, $6, $12 or $24 depending on whether you play a 4-Way, 6-Way, 12-Way or 24-Way.
What is a 4-Way play?
A 4-Way play is one where you have three numbers that are identical and one that is different, such as 1112. This creates 'four ways' that the numbers can be ordered - 1112, 1121, 1211 and 2111. See the Ways to Play page for descriptions and examples for 6-Way, 12-Way and 24-Way wagers.
How much can I win?
The most you can win is $5,000, for a $1 Exact Order play. All the payouts are based on your play type and how much you wager.
What are my chances of winning?
The chances of any four-digit combination between 0000 and 9999 being drawn are 1 in 10,000, so these are your odds if you play an Exact Order wager. The odds vary for other play types. See the
Odds and Prizes page for more information. You can also boost your chances of winning by adding the Wild Ball option.
What is the Wild Ball?
The Wild Ball is a fifth number between 0 and 9 that is also selected at random as part of every draw. If you add the Wild Ball option, you can use this number to replace any of the first four and create new combinations. For example, if the numbers drawn are 1234 and the Wild Ball is 7, it makes these new combinations - 1237, 1274, 1734 and 7234. Adding the Wild Ball doubles the cost of a play.
Does Pick 4 have an age limit?
You have to be at least 18 to buy any lottery ticket in Tennessee.
Can I play multiple consecutive draws?
Yes, you can play your numbers for up to seven consecutive days, or choose to enter just the next two or three draws.
How can I claim prizes?
You can claim Cash 4 prizes of any value by mailing your winning tickets to P.O. Box 290636, Nashville, TN 37229-0636. Alternatively, claim prizes below $600 from Tennessee Lottery retailers, or larger amounts from any of the district offices in Nashville, Knoxville, Chattanooga or Memphis.
What is the cut-off time for claiming a prize?
You have 180 days from the draw date to claim any prizes won on TN Cash 4.
Will my prize be taxed?
There is no state tax on lottery prizes in Tennessee, and federal taxes are only withheld (at a rate of 24 percent) on prizes above $5,000, which is the most you can win on Cash 4.
